Daily Office

Night · Wednesday, 7 January 2026 · Epiphany

We hear God's CALL TO WORSHIP at the close of the day in the words of Psalm 124:8

Our help is in the Name of the Lord,
    the maker of heaven and earth.

We respond with CONFESSION in the words of the office of Compline

Almighty God, our heavenly Father: we have sinned against you, through our own fault, in thought, and word, and deed, and in what we have left undone. For the sake of your Son our Lord Jesus Christ, forgive us all our offenses; and grant that we may serve you in newness of life, to the glory of your Name. Amen.

We PRAISE God in the NIGHT PSALMPsalm 134 · Ecce nunc

1Behold now, praise the Lord, *
all you servants of the Lord;

2You who by night stand in the house of the Lord, *
even in the courts of the house of our God.

3Lift up your hands in the sanctuary, *
and praise the Lord.

4The Lord who made heaven and earth *
give you blessing out of Zion.

Gloria Patri

Glory be to the Father
    and to the Son
    and to the Holy Spirit:
As it was in the beginning,
    is now and ever shall be,
    world without end.
Amen.

We hear God’s word in A SENTENCE OF SCRIPTURE Jeremiah 14:9

You, O Lord, are in the midst of us, and we are called by your Name: do not forsake us, O Lord our God.

We rest in THE SONG OF SIMEON, the Nunc Dimittis Luke 2:29-32

Lord, you now have set your servant free
    to go in peace as you have promised;
For these eyes of mine have seen the Savior,
    whom you have prepared for all the world to see:
A Light to enlighten the nations,
    and the glory of your people Israel.

We pray the LORD'S PRAYER as Jesus taught his disciples, in those words which are most meaningful to us

Our [ Father / Mother / Creator ] in heaven,
Hallowed be your name.
Your kingdom come,
Your will be done on earth
as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our [ trespasses / sins ]
as we forgive those who [ trespass / sin ] against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
Amen.

A concluding BENEDICTION from the office of Compline

Guide us waking, O Lord, and guard us sleeping;
that awake we may watch with Christ,
and asleep we may rest in peace.

The almighty and merciful Lord — Father, Son, and Holy Spirit —
bless us and keep us, this night and evermore.

Amen.
